CA Insiders Do Blog

(cross-posted on dkos)

The California Majority Report launched at midnight after a swanky insider fest at a Sacramento club.  This is the mother of all insider blog.  The vast majority of contributors are Sacramento based consultants.  The three lead guys are Steve Maviglio, chief of staff for Assembly Speaker Nunez, Roger Salazar of Acosta|Salazar, currently who is working for the party and Jason Kinney of California Strategies and Communications LLC.  The three of them worked together in the Davis Administration.  Here is the list of some of the other contributors.

Bill Carrick, top strategist for the Angelides for Governor campaign; pollsters David Binder of Binder Research and Ben Tulchin of Greenberg Research; former Clinton/Gore strategist Chris Lehane; Gale Kaufman, who engineering last year's successful Alliance for a Better California campaign against Governor Schwarzenegger; Washington-D.C. based political consultant David Dixon; Assemblymembers Dario Frommer and Lloyd Levine; infrastructure bond campaign strategist Sandi Polka and Senate President Don Perata political spokesperson Paul Hefner; former Steve Westly campaign strategists Garry South and campaign manager Jude Barry; Mayor Newsom and Mayor Villaraigosa's top strategists, Eric Jaye and Ace Smith, respectively.

From their press release:

SACRAMENTO - A new political website/weblog for California Democrats featuring regular contributions by more than 30 of state's top professional Democratic strategists and practitioners is launching tonight at Midnight.

Called "The California Majority Report" and billed as being "THE political website for Democrats who don't play politics - they live it," the site is located at   www.camajorityreport.com.

"We intend for this site to fill a real vacuum within the Democratic community, serving as a virtual roundtable for the best and brightest political professionals working in our state and the millions of Californians who care about progressive issues and causes to 1) come together, 2) communicate, 3) strategize and 4) organize," said co-publisher Jason Kinney.

"It will combine breaking news and blogging about key political events in our state from the shrewdest minds and sharpest wits working on our side of the aisle - for consumption by policymakers, candidates, political junkies, campaign professionals, grassroots activists, interested citizens, and the media," Kinney continued.   "Our goal is to lift all Democrats and provide practical tools to achieve our common purposes."

Thankfully they are not using that awful tagline on the site, but rather "Red Meat for a Blue State" and "Because politics is a contact sport".

They are hoping to make some money off of the endeavor and are paying their editors.  Nobody writing for the site is an established California blogger and very few of them have written a blog post in their life.  There are no diaries, but they do have comments working.  They have been working on this site since February and it took them a while to actually launch.

The first topic they are covering is the CA-Gov race.  A number of them have been offering advice to Angelides ranging from define yourself better to promise to pull the CA National Guard out of Iraq.

Go take a look and give them some feedback here.  I know a number of the people behind it and will be sure to pass it on to them.

SACRAMENTO - A new political website/weblog for California New Democrats featuring regular contributions by more than 30 of state's top professional Democratic losers and triangulators is launching tonight at Midnight.

Called "The DLC Minority Report" and billed as being "THE political website for Democrats who don't play at corruption and cynicism - they live it."

"We intend for this site to fill a real vacuum within the NeoDem community, serving as a virtual roundtable for the worst and dullest political professionals bilking our state and the millions of Californians who have allowed us get away with it" said co-publisher Jason Kinney.

"It will combine manipulated news and blogging about key political events in our state from the sleazyist minds and crookedest wits working on our side of the aisle - for consumption by the gullible," Kinney continued.   "Our goal is to counter efforts by lunatic reformers who want to deprive us of the lifetime sinecures we took for granted when we entered politics."

With Democrats Lieberman goes for the jugular. With Republicans he goes for the lips.
